๐๐„๐–๐’ | GHS brings hope to youth at Bahay Pag-asa through Project H.O.P.E

Gappal High School (GHS) brought hope where it was most needed by reaching the youth of Bahay Pag-asa in Sitio Manalpaac, San Pablo, Cauayan City, Isabela through Project H.O.P.E (Helping Others Persistently for Everyone), an initiative aimed at providing emotional support, encouragement, and care on Dec. 16, 2025.

Teachers and student officers from various organizations led the outreach, volunteering their time to engage with the beneficiaries and create a memorable experience.

The program included Zumba, interactive games, and Bible sharing, offering a balance of fun, reflection, and inspiration that allowed the youth to express themselves freely.

During the outreach, packed lunches and gifts were distributed to the youth, simple gestures that brought smiles and showed the schoolโ€™s genuine care and generosity.

Bahay Pag-Asa Center is a Transition and Rehabilitation Home for Disadvantaged Children, serving as a safe haven for youth in need by providing shelter, care, and rehabilitation while supporting their overall development and well-being.

Through Project H.O.P.E, GHS showed its commitment to helping the community, proving that even small acts of kindness can brighten the days of the youth and give them hope.

๐๐„๐–๐’ | GHS earns 2nd Runner-up in La Jota Dance Competition

In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Hacienda de San Luis, Gappal High School (GHS) brought pride to their school as they showcased their talent in the La Jota Dance Competition, earning the title of 2nd Runner-up among competing schools across the city, Oct. 20.

The team members from MeloDanza Club was composed of five pairs: Richard Galutera Jr., and Christine Khelly Lagrata, Allysa Daphney Ugale and Alex John Agcaoili, Cedie Agcaoili and Kyna Agcaoili, John Mark Longgat and Zhaynna Love Vidad, and Alberson Calaoagan and Ayesha De Luna.

According to their coach, Mannyfer L. Curam, the win was a blessing and a surprise since the dancers were first-timers in a folk dance competition and had only a few days to prepare after joining the School-Based Press Conference (SBPC) event.

Despite the challenges, Curam shared how proud he was when his studentsโ€™ hard work paid off, earning 3rd place out of eight schools in the competition.

โ€œPero dahil sa determinasyon at husay na ipinakita nila sa pagsayaw, pati na rin sa maayos naming pagsunod sa dance literature, nakamit namin ang ikatlong pwesto sa walong kalahok,โ€ he said.

Moreover, the event highlighted the grace and heritage of Filipino traditional dance, with Cauayan City Science and Technology High School emerging as Champion, followed by West Tabacal Region National High School as 1st Runner-up.

๐๐„๐–๐’ | GHS empowers young journalists through SBPC TIGNAY โ€˜25

With the goal of nurturing skillful, responsible, and confident campus journalists, Gappal High School (GHS) launched its TIGNAY: School-Based Press Conference 2025 with the theme, โ€œBeyond Silence, Toward the Light of Truth Through Campus Journalism,โ€ at the Gappal Community Center on October 16โ€“18.

The event served as a training ground for aspiring writers and broadcasters from the Special Program in Journalism (SPJ), as well as students from the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) and Senior High School (SHS).

โ€œMasaya po ako dahil nagkaroon ng ganitong event upang magkaroon pa po ako ng dagdag kaalaman sa pagsulat ng balita,โ€ Joyce Galutera from Grade-9 SPJ shared.

Through the series of workshops, lectures, and contests, participants were equipped with essential journalistic skillsโ€”from news, feature, and editorial writing to photojournalism, sports coverage, and radio broadcasting.

According to Kisses Faye Mariano, SPJ Coordinator, TIGNAY aims to enhance their skills, ignite curiosity, and empower students to become advocates of truth in their communities.

On its third and final day, the event culminated with an awarding ceremony recognizing outstanding student journalists who excelled in various categories of writing.

Moreover, the winners will represent the said school in the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC), bringing with them the skills, discipline, and passion they gained from the school-based training.

Through this conference, GHS continues to shape a new generation of journalists who inform, inspire, and uphold the truth.

Young artists from Gappal High School (GHS) proudly secured 7th place in the Mural Painting Contest organized by Tactical Operations Group 2 (TOG 2), which gathered 17 participating groups from different schools.

Anchored on the theme โ€œDangal sa Paglilingkod, Pusong Alay sa Bayan: TOG 2 @23 Katuwang sa Misyon at Serbisyo sa West Philippine Sea,โ€ the competition aimed to broaden youth awareness on the West Philippine Sea issue and instill a deeper sense of national sovereignty and patriotism.

Representing GHS, the team was composed of Richard Galutera, Wella Janyne Agpawa, Lowel Agpawa, Hilmarc Mateo, and Zaijan Isidro from the Senior and Junior High School departments, with guidance from Coach Mannyfer Curam.

The contest unfolded in two phases, held on September 20โ€“21 and September 27, giving each group the chance to bring their ideas to life.

According to the team member Richard Galutera, joining the contest for the first time came with challenges, particularly dealing with the intense heat during the painting process.

โ€œSince first time naming nag-join ng mural painting contest, medyo mahirap kasi kalaban mo talaga yung init, but masaya siya sobra. Then hindi limited 'yong mga materials na kakailanganin at mababait 'yong officers,โ€ Galutera shared.
