BREAKING: BSP ANNOUNCES INTEREST HIKE AT 6.5% BASED ON 25 BASIS PTS

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas announces an off-cycle interest rate hike of 25 basis points which raises it to 6.5%. This announcement was made by Governor Eli Remolona and will take effect on Friday, Oct. 27.

This is the first hike since the BSP pushed interest rates to 6.25% last March. This decision was done earlier than expected, as a way to slow down the rate of price increase of goods and services.
