BFP Deploys 40,000 Firefighters Nationwide for Semana Santa 2026
QUEZON CITY, March 30, 2026 β€” The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is mobilizing about 40,000 firefighters nationwide to ensure public safety during the observance of Holy Week 2026.

BFP Officer-in-Charge FCSUPT Wilberto Rico Neil A Kwan Tiu stated that the all-out deployment set by the Directorate for Operations is part of the BFP’s Full Alert Status, which establishes the Fire Assistance Service Teams (FAST). The β€œFAST” includes BFP personnel deployed to motorist assistance desks, and an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team on standby.

According to the β€œOPLAN SEMANA SANTA AND LAKBAY ALALAY”, the BFP will be on Full Alert Status (Code Red) starting March 29 to April 05, 2026. This deployment aims to provide immediate emergency response and strengthen fire prevention efforts in churches, transport terminals, and other strategic locations, together with their local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).

BFP OIC FCSUPT Kwan Tiu urges the public to observe fire safety precautions during the Semana Santa season.

Fire safety reminders include:
- Avoid overloading outlets at home.
- Do not plug multiple appliances into a single outlet.
- Regularly check cords and appliances.
- Immediately replace damaged wiring or defective equipment.
- Unplug appliances when not in use, especially when leaving the house.
- Never leave the stove unattended while cooking.
- Ensure there are no LPG leaks. It is ideal to place tanks in a well-ventilated area.
- Keep candles, matches, lighters and other flammable materials away from children.
- Avoid smoking indoors. Cigarette butts should be completely extinguished before disposal.
- Practice good housekeeping habits. Keep the house clean and organized. Remove clutter and highly flammable materials.
- Have a fire extinguisher or basic firefighting tools at home for immediate response.
- If possible, install fire detection and alarm systems such as stand-alone smoke detectors for early detection.
- Create a Family Exit Drill and Escape Plan. Practice evacuation procedures with everyone in the household.
