Dear future student leaders,
I don’t know your name yet or what position you will be in; but I hope you don’t mind me sharing some things I want to tell you as a future foundation of this kind of home we both belong to.
First, I hope that you will always remember why you once thought about taking on responsibility in the first place. Not for recognition nor for attention, but for something gentler — like wanting to help, understand, and make things a little better for the people around you. That quiet dream in your heart that seeks to help through the smallest acts of kindness to the most meaningful ones.
And isn’t it something like our dreams as kids of becoming a superhero, someone who does good without ever wishing for anything in return? I hope you don’t lose that simple intention you started with.
Likewise, I hope you won’t forget that even if you are in a position of leadership, you don’t have to be above anyone, but simply become someone who represents the people around you. Your role must never feel like something that separates you from others, but something that connects you to them even more. This will make your leadership more meaningful.
Additionally, I hope you continue becoming someone who leads with kindness, humility, and care. Someone who doesn’t rush to be seen, but instead chooses to see others more clearly. It is okay to feel proud of yourself but I hope that pride will not consume you. May you never forget that you lead for a purpose, and not for applause.
And finally, I wish that you never lose yourself. If ever things do not go your way, I hope you will not see it as failure. There will be burdens, and there will be moments when you feel tired and exhausted — but that is okay. During such moments, I hope you stay patient with yourself, and still choose to show up in your own steady way.
You don’t have to be perfect to be considered a great leader, because even the simplest and smallest efforts can mean far more than they seem from the outside.
So, when your name finally blends into the crowded hush of corridors, may you never forget the real reason why you are there. May you never forget the people who believed in you, those who put you in that position. May you never forget us — and most especially, may you never forget the kindness that lies within you, the dream to help and not the dream to boss.
