Role of Projection in Character Building

People are complex in nature.
People are a walking paradox, full of contradictions. And one can never be described with a single phrase or sentence.

​I often find myself writing my own reactions into a dialogue rather than the character's. And then I ended up with having almost the same personalities. It comes off as flat. It's frustrating. But psychology could always come in handy when it comes to this.

Projection is an unconscious way of thinking and interpreting situations. We all do it everyday. Once we understand a character's "shadow self", we can write interesting characters in their humanness or unpredictability.

As a start, how would your character react to
"You took everything from me!"
