Now that we've successfully planted our oyster mushroom spawn in our bagged paper waste, we now wait for the mycelium to spread and colonize the paper waste and completely colonized and decompose the paper waste and turn into a fruiting body of the mushroom.

-This process may usually take a month or so.

Now that we've bagged our paper waste we now start planting our mushroom spawn in our plastic bag or container.

-It is recommended that when planting the spawn you do it in a closed room to prevent contamination from the air.

What happened to our paper waste now?

Now we start to bag it in our polyethylene bags or containers.

Now that we've strained our paper waste we now slowly set it out to on a flat surface overnight to reduce the moisture of our damp paper waste.

What do we do with the pieces of paper that we had cut?

-Now we just set that aside and go grab a pot or colander and start a fire to boil water at 100° C (212° F) (boiling point of water) and pour the pieces of paper in the pot of boiling water, stirring it around for a few minutes before turning the fire off and straining most of the paper waste that we just boiled. (ultimately Sterilizing our paper waste before planting in our spawn)

Why do we need to boil the paper waste?

-We need to boil it to kill some of micro organism or small insects possible in our substrate. As it might cause failure or slow down the process of letting the mycelium colonize the paper waste.

What happens to the paper we've collected?

Simple, first step we cut it up into smaller pieces cut or rip, either way is fine as we are doing this to help boost the process of the mushroom spawn from spreading into our piled and bagged paper waste.

As you can see, they are now doing the first step, by cutting it we may be able to quicken the process of having the mycelium branch out faster.
