Pangasinan State University (PSU) - Bayambang Campus has further strengthened its standing in teacher education after being recognized as one of only 13 Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) nationwide granted the prestigious Center of Excellence (COE) status by the Teacher Education Council (TEC).
The recognition was conferred during the TECโs First Council Meeting for 2026 held at the Professional Regulation Commission - National Capital Region Office in Quezon City on June 3.
Of the 186 institutions that applied for the distinction, 57 underwent onsite validation, from which TEC recognized 13 institutions that consistently demonstrated the highest standards of excellence in teacher education, with eight receiving Regional COE status and five earning National COE status.
The designation was granted pursuant to Sections 5 and 6 of Republic Act No. 11713, or the Excellence in Teacher Education Act of 2022, which authorizes the TEC to identify and recognize institutions that exhibit exemplary performance in key areas of teacher education. These include faculty qualifications, student and graduate achievements, instructional quality, research productivity, learning facilities, student development programs, teacher preparation, and community engagement.
As one of the institutions conferred with Regional COE status, PSU Bayambang joins other recognized TEIs that will serve as strategic partners of the TEC in advancing the quality of teacher education in the country. Through collaboration, innovation, leadership, and knowledge-sharing initiatives, these institutions are expected to contribute significantly to the continuous improvement of teacher preparation and professional development.
Under the leadership of University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas and Campus Executive Director Dr. Madlyn D. Tingco, and College of Teacher Education Dean Dr. Cheryl C. Mendoza, the recognition not only brings honor to the University and the region but also highlights the collective efforts of the College of Teacher Education community in fostering excellence among future educators.
