𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | COE holds 2nd Day With the Dean for AY '25-'26
𝘣𝘺 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘸𝘺𝘯 𝘐𝘢𝘯 𝘈. 𝘎𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘱𝘦

Questions were raised and concerns were heard as students, student-leaders, department chairpersons, and the Dean of the College of Engineering (COE) gathered at the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) Covered Court for the second Day with the Dean of Academic Year 2025–2026, held on April 22, 2026.

The event highlighted meaningful conversation between the students and the college administration, led by Dean Dr. Sharona Q. Barroga, alongside the eight department chairpersons.

Dr. Barroga opened the program by presenting updates on concerns raised during the previous Day With the Dean, including policies on wearing uniforms, improvements in facilities and infrastructure, and student concerns involving some personnel.

Following this, students were given the opportunity to anonymously voice out their concerns regarding issues within their respective departments and the college in general. Queries were addressed directly to the college dean and the department chairpersons.

As the discussion progressed, students raised successive concerns involving department faculty, during which some responses from the panel were lacking objectivity. This prompted Engr. Lawrence John Tagata, Director of the Office of Student Affairs and Services, to briefly intervene the forum.

Engr. Tagata voiced that certain answers appeared to lean toward justification rather than directly addressing the concerns raised, and emphasized the importance of providing clear and actionable responses in line with the sole purpose of the event.

Following this intervention, additional concerns were raised by students, particularly regarding faculty and personnel. These included issues related to faculty evaluation, reports of perceived unprofessional or disrespectful behavior among certain personnels, and teaching practices described as fast-paced, with some instructors prioritizing syllabus coverage over effective student learning.

Other concerns raised during the forum included instances of academic dishonesty among students, classroom conditions such as inadequate ventilation, policies on allowing the overloading of academic units, and matters related to on-the-job training (OJT).

Before the event concluded, the current COE Student Council (COE-SC) president, alongside the organization presidents, took the stand to address additional queries and org-related concerns.

The forum was then adjourned as the administration assured attendees that all concerns raised would undergo proper review and would be addressed through appropriate actions.

With great pride and anticipation, we present the newly elected officers of the College of Engineering Student Council. These individuals have been entrusted with the responsibility to lead, represent, and serve the student body with integrity, dedication, and excellence throughout the academic year.

At the forefront of this team is 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗞𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗵𝘂𝗮 𝗗. 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘇𝗮𝗱𝗮, together with 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗟. 𝗚𝘂𝗱𝗼𝘆, guiding the council toward a more progressive and student-centered community. Supporting them in ensuring efficient and transparent operations are 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹 𝗔. 𝗨𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗮, 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗿 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗮, and 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘀𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗼.

Handling organizational growth and communication are 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗵𝗮𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗼 𝗥. 𝗖𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 and 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗰, who will work to strengthen connections within and beyond the college.
