NCC'S SHORT STORY
(One of the Top 5 Finalists)

A proposal by Ar. Rex Jr Sicat, together with Edno T. Joson and Jessie M. Tadeo Jr., for New Clark City's Design Competition “𝘽𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨: 𝘼 𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙬𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙠 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮’𝙨 𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙞𝙘𝙝 𝘽𝙞𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮” held last March 23, 2025, to April 3, 2025, by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (The BCDA Group), New Clark City, and in partnership with Provincial Government of Tarlac

Competition Objective: To select outstanding public art installation designs on Slope Protections along One Clark Boulevard that will serve as landmark and symbol of New Clark City, embodying its aspirations for sustainability, innovation, and cultural vibrancy.

Competition Theme:
1. The proposed art installation shall be a Modern Wall Relief.
2. The installation shall reflect the city’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and technological advancement.
3. The installation shall embody the city’s vision as a vibrant and inclusive community.
4. The installation shall embody the city’s natural ecosystems and biodiversity.

ＯＵＲ ＤＥＳＩＧＮ:

Sustainable progress is always the goal of New Clark City, where order and diversity co-exist. In this work, progress is represented by the striking orange ribbon-like graph, going up and down denoting that developments, in general, are not linear or consistently on an upward path. Within this chart-like composition, is also a progression from the past, present, and future, characterized by various figures and elements telling a short story. Passing by it shows a different picture, you only observe what you perceive. However, if you seek to understand the story, you look closely.

𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝙊𝙗𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚: This artwork, in line with the overall objective, aims to visually narrate the short story of New Clark City, highlighting the collaborative efforts of its stakeholders and the crucial role of biodiversity in its sustainable development.

𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣: Inspired by the dynamic growth of the city and the dedication of the communities, planners, and environmentalists involved, the composition celebrates the harmonious integration of human progress and ecological preservation as the foundation of New Clark City’s vibrant future.
