"Dancing in the Rain: Celebrating Family Day at UNHS"

By: James Carl Geyrozaga

On December 19, 2024, under skies that shifted between teasing sunlight and persistent rain, Usmad National High School (UNHS) stood resilient. Despite the gray clouds and relentless downpour, the spirit of Family Day burned bright, proving that even rain couldn’t dampen the joy of togetherness.

Family Day at UNHS is more than just a tradition—it’s a celebration of love, support, and unity. For six years, it has brought students, parents, teachers, and stakeholders together to embrace the essence of family. This year, the festivities took on a special purpose, with the “Handog Pamasko: Kaakibat ay Proyekto” raffle draw supporting the construction of a multipurpose shed, as outlined in SGC Resolution No. 003 s. 2024.

Yes, time is short, but sometimes we need to slow down and cherish each moment, as these will soon become lasting memories. This was clearly shown as students, along with their families, made Family Day at Usmad National High School more fun despite the rain. Their smiles, laughter, and cheers overpowered the rain, turning it into a mere compliment to their happiness of being together.

As raindrops fell, laughter and cheers echoed through the school grounds. Families didn’t let the weather hold them back. They played games, danced to lively music, and sought shelter under chairs and tables when borrowed tents could no longer accommodate everyone.

“There’s a rainbow after the rain,” the saying goes, but UNHS families proved there could be a rainbow during the rain. Their smiles and laughter transformed the rain into an unexpected prop, amplifying the day’s joy. Isn’t it exhilarating? Families still drew genuine smiles on their faces, embracing the opportunity to build a stronger bond with their children and the school. The event gave both parents and students a chance to reflect on the value of family.

Under the rainy skies, parents and students were not afraid of getting wet and cold. Setting their mind to enjoy the moment, having fun with each member of the family. Despite of bad weather, they aren’t fazed. Instead, participated in every enjoyable game organized by the committee. Each drop of rain soaked the families who were so happy playing games and collecting prizes, but they also soaked themselves in positivity and resilience.

It rains! Well, literally and figuratively, dance with the rain! Each grade level prepared energetic dance presentations, pulling in parents and teachers to join the rhythm and warmth despite the cold rain. Between segments of games and the drawing of winners for consolation prizes, the air was filled with excitement, while the raffle draw added suspense and anticipation. Generous personalities donated surprise prizes, always seeing Usmad National High School as a home for strong families.

One of the event's highlights was the Unity Lunch. All the food brought by each family was arranged on a single long table. Everyone, including family members, friends, and all attendees, could walk along, have friendly conversations, and enjoy the delicious variety of dishes. It was truly a feast of interaction, collaboration, and celebration.

As the event continued, the most anticipated moment arrived—the grand raffle draw. The SGC Chairman, Hon. Donabella D. Albarracin, drew the grand winner, and Jaylord Amad from Grade 11 Euclid went home with a 50-kg sack of Ganador rice.

Beyond the prizes and festivities, Family Day served as a powerful reminder of the value of togetherness. It underscored the resilience of the UNHS community, showing how love and positivity can flourish even in less-than-perfect circumstances!

Rain-soaked but undiscouraged, UNHS families left with more than prizes—they carried home memories of laughter, unity, and a renewed appreciation for the people who matter most. Family Day remains an inspiration of strength and togetherness, reminding everyone that the heart of any community is the family.

May the bonds forged during this celebration continue to grow, making Usmad National High School a home for strong families and enduring positivity.

"Chapter Closed, New Beginning Unfolds"
By: Princess Dianne M. Lanticse

“How do you honor decades of dedication and passion? With laughter, music, and a room full of memories, of course."

It was a dance of sun and rain on December 20, 2024, as the Faculty and Staff of Usmad National High School, dressed in glamorous outfits and wearing genuine smiles, arrived at Maayo Hotel in Suba, Poblacion, Argao. The event marked a unique gathering of educators from Usmad, Cansuje, and Talaga National High Schools, coming together to honor three retirees and celebrate the spirit of Christmas.

What a moment of unity it was, with the three secondary schools of Argao I coming together to bid farewell to the honorees as they signed off from their duties in the Department of Education and celebrate their contribution to education. At the same time, it was a chance to celebrate Christmas together, shared with
laughter, cheers, and carefree moments.

The venue sparkled with holiday lights and the vibrant energy of teachers greeting one another with genuine warmth. While waiting for the program to kick off, you could hear laughter, giggles, and stories being caught up and chuckles echoed in the hallways of the hotel and other areas while snapping pictures filling the air with new memories.

Their faces seemed as sweet as candy as they smiled at each other, giggling and having some fun. What a sight it was to see the teachers letting loose, showing elegance and joy, far removed from their usual roles—no longer burdened by instructional materials or faces dusted with chalk.

To energize the atmosphere while waiting for others to make their grand entrance, spirited games began. Each school was tasked with preparing two games with prizes. Teachers from all three schools eagerly participated, showing their playful side with laughter and cheers. Like children at a Christmas party, they displayed a competitive yet friendly spirit. The walls seemed to vibrate with their enthusiasm as they cheered, clapped, and jumped, infecting everyone in the room with their energy. They were so jolly that some had to catch their breath, holding their backs and knees.

With the air still buzzing from the fun games, the mood shifted as the room filled with expected guests, signalling the official start of the evening’s program. The laughter and light hearted energy from the games lingered in the air as the evening's formal program began. Dr. Mary Lady C. Uytico, Argao I PSDS, delivered an inspirational message that prompted reflection among the teachers. She emphasized the importance of professionalism and the need for appropriate social media decorum. Dr. Uytico concluded with a powerful reminder: 'Christmas is not just a season for giving, but a season for forgiving.”

The event was set to honor three remarkable retirees: Mrs. Delia C. Sardido from Usmad National High School, who dedicated nearly 37 years to teaching; Mrs. Cynthia Tabanao from Talaga National High School, who served for 36 years; and Dr. Eduardo M. Lumayag, former Argao I District Supervisor.

The day progressed with heartfelt speeches filled with nostalgia and gratitude from co-teachers, friends, and school heads. They shared words of appreciation, reflecting on the journeys of each retiree. Every speech conveyed admiration and emotion, celebrating not only their professional achievements but also the lives they touched along the way. As they embark on their new journey, their legacy as teachers remains a priceless gift - one that will forever be carved in the hearts of their students and the colleagues with whom they have worked..

A heartfelt response from Ma’am Delia echoed in the room: 'This is not the last; magkita rajud ta kay mo bisita rako.' She expressed her gratitude for the thoughtful messages and gifts she received, reflecting on her nearly 37 years of dedication at Usmad National High School. Over the years, Ma’am Delia became a beloved mentor to both her students and colleagues, known for her unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds. As she spoke, the warmth in her voice reflected the deep relationships she had built over the years, including the special one she found with her husband.

Meanwhile, Ma’am Cynthia was deeply touched when her former students, now her colleagues, prepared a song for her, highlighting some of her most commonly used phrases in the classroom. Ma’am Cynthia’s 36-year career at Talaga National High School was marked by her deep passion for teaching, which her colleagues greatly admired. They especially appreciated how she dedicated so much of her time beyond class hours, always staying late to check papers and activity sheets, ensuring that each student received the attention they needed. With all the effort she put into shaping the lives of her students, Ma’am Cynthia surely deserved the time for herself.

Dr. Lumayag, on the other hand, shared his heartfelt thanks and joy, celebrating the unity of the three secondary schools coming together to mark this special occasion. His tenure as District Supervisor was a remarkable one, and his leadership left a lasting impact on many. Dr. Jessan C. Caminade, Head Teacher III of Cansuje National High School, shared that it was because of Dr. Lumayag’s guidance and mentorship that she is now a school head herself.

The celebration didn’t end after the emotional walk down memory lane during the tribute. Each school had prepared an intermission dance that brought new energy to the room. Teachers swayed and moved to the music, embracing the rhythm as if possessed by the carefree spirit of their younger selves.

As the celebration continued, the aroma of delicious food filled the air, setting the stage for a delightful dinner. It was an evening of unity, where colleagues shared not only a meal but also reminisced and bonded over shared memories, strengthening the bonds that brought them together. After a sumptuous dinner, lively games resumed, filling the evening with even more laughter and excitement. It felt as if the room had transformed into a classroom, with nearly a hundred participants creating the buzz of friendly competition.

Many associate Christmas with gift-giving, making the exchange of gifts a beloved tradition. Everyone gathered at the center to exchange gifts, with a twist: the host narrated a story, and every time they heard the words 'Left' or 'Right,' they had to move their gifts accordingly. It was truly fun! Who says gift exchanges are only for kids?"

As the night drew to a close, and with the teachers reliving their youth, a short disco was granted to them. The celebration ended with unforgettable memories that would last forever, serving as a reminder that no matter how busy life gets, there’s always a reason to come together and celebrate. As the event officially ended, everyone happily left the venue, setting aside any complaints about the unrelenting rain outside.
