MAUNDY THURSDAY
In the Gospel of the Washing of the Feet, Jesus does something astonishing: He kneels before His disciples. The One they call Master takes the place of a servant. And Peter resists — not because he lacks love, but because he cannot accept a God who chooses to serve him.
Perhaps PETER SPEAKS TO MANY OF US.
Life teaches us to grow strong, responsible, and self-reliant. As we mature, we learn to carry burdens, care for others, and stand on our own feet. We become accustomed to serving, leading, and providing. And slowly, without noticing it, we forget how to receive.
But JESUS REVERSES THE NATURAL MOVEMENT OF LIFE.
The world teaches independence; Christ leads us back to holy dependence. Before we can wash the feet of others, we must first allow Him to wash ours. Before we can serve faithfully, we must allow ourselves to be loved, forgiven, and carried. We realize that WE ARE READY TO SERVE CHRIST — BUT, LIKE PETER, NOT ALWAYS READY TO BE SERVED BY HIS LOVER.
Holy Thursday reminds us that discipleship is not proven only by what we do for God, but by our willingness to entrust ourselves to Him. There comes a moment in every life when strength is no longer enough, when we can no longer move forward by our own effort, and it is Christ who takes over.
May we not only serve Christ faithfully,
but also humbly receive His love.
