THROWBACK, and IN MEMORY AND HONOR OF SIR/COACH ALAN BALUYOT:

“My journey in MMA began when my late father encouraged me to try wrestling. A former wrestler from California, he became my first coach and biggest influence.” - Eros Baluyot, MMA champion

In remembrance: Eros’ late father Alan Baluyot (shown at the start of the IG video, on the left reaching out to hold his son: www.instagram.com/p/DTdHqyUD7c5/?hl=en) was a true-blue wrestler to the very end. As mentioned by the champion, his father wrestled in California in high school, and upon coming back to the Philippines, eventually founded, managed, and co-coached the Parañaque City Wrestling Team with his son Eros becoming one of its top wrestlers.

The father and son, representing their city team, actively participated in wrestling tournaments and multi-sport events that featured their chosen sport. And, Alan soon organized two successful editions of the Paranaque City Wrestling Cup in cooperation with the Paranaque City LGU. Fondly called Sir Alan or Coach Alan, he built bridges to promote wrestling in his home city and beyond. For Sir Alan, wrestling was about building bridges—not burning them.

Aside from coaching Eros in wrestling competitions, Alan also brought his young son to MMA events in the 2000s. Back then, Eros was a passionate young fan courteously shaking hands and mingling with local MMA fighters. And now, to say that Eros has become more than just a fan of MMA is, without a doubt, a gross understatement. ;)

Sir Alan Baluyot is sorely missed by the Philippine wrestling community, and we shall always be grateful to him for all his contributions, and remember and honor his memory.

In the second half of 2000's, one of the strongest and fastest-rising wrestling teams was the Parañaque Wrestling Team. Its charge was led by its top triumvirate made up of seniors Glenn Torre (in the photo, showing him wrestling in Dubai where he currently works), Michael Bonilla and young wrestler and now two-time world Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion (white then blue belt) Eros Baluyot. Team manager was Eros's father -- and former California high school wrestler and PHL wrestling team coach -- Alan Baluyot.
