๐ In Lido village, West Sepik, Haii Entrepreneurship Coastal Fishing Group is fishing more often, keeping more fish fresh, and using its income to support family needs.
With support from the EU-STREIT PNG programme, the group received better fishing equipment, cooler boxes, practical training and technical support in fish handling, storage and marketing.
For Steven Tekwei, who manages the group, and his team, the change is practical: more fishing days, reduced losses, better sales, and income that is helping buy fishing gear to sustain and expand the business, build family homes, and add more variety to family meals.

๐น๐ญ Thai vanilla scientists recently visited ๐ต๐ฌ Papua New Guineaโs Sepik region to exchange technical knowledge with local lead farmers and agripreneurs, and learn from their field experience in return.
The four-member delegation visited the Mongiong Business Group and Hambraure Group model vanilla sites in East Sepik, before leading a workshop on improved cultivation, farm management, post-harvest handling, quality improvement, value addition and market access.
Sepik farmers also shared their knowledge of local growing conditions, production constraints and practical adjustments they use in the field.
Facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the EU-STREIT PNG programme, the visit contributed to wider South-South and triangular cooperation efforts to strengthen PNGโs vanilla sector.

Cocoa and vanilla from Papua New Guineaโs Sepik region are not only reaching overseas buyers. They can also bring new flavours to everyday cooking, baking and food preparation here at home.
Following their participation in the Greater Sepik Cocoa of Excellence Show and Trade Expo 2026 in Wewak, two renowned New Zealand-based chefs developed and demonstrated six new recipes using locally available ingredients, with Sepik cocoa and vanilla adding distinctive flavour and aroma.
The recipes show how these high-quality local products can add flavour, aroma and value to dishes prepared in PNG kitchens, while opening new ideas for farmers, families, food businesses and cocoa and vanilla entrepreneurs.
