Felicitaciones por el record mundial junnior!!
Oleksandr Ponomarenko, bodyweight 65.8 kg
2025 World Champion and two-time European Champion (2023/2024) in the Subjunior bench press division came to Malta for his final international meet as a Subjunior, aiming to put an exclamation mark before moving up to Juniors and to claim his third consecutive European title. But the reality turned out to be even better!
As the only lifter in the 66 kg class, Oleksandr had no direct rivals — but that didn’t stop him from delivering a phenomenal performance that the fans will remember.
He opened with 175 kg, securing the victory and the European title.
For his second attempt, he called for 190.5 kg — a World Record attempt! And what followed was perfection: flawless ex*****on, three white lights, and a brand-new World Record ✔️
The record, previously set by Natan Balogh (Hungary) back on 12.10.2018 and standing for almost seven years, was finally broken!
Not stopping there, Oleksandr went for another World Record on his third attempt — 202.5 kg. But this time, the weight was just too much and he couldn’t hold it. No lift. Still, what more could anyone wish for to close out such a Subjunior career?
🔥 Oleksandr Ponomarenko — World Champion, three-time European Champion and World Record holder in bench press, two-time European Classic Bench Press Champion!
With a résumé like this, he will be a serious contender in the Junior division!
