Disaster Response Exercise 11/08/2012

A 10-day forum for the exchange of ideas on first response to disasters concluded yesterday with a ceremony at an ES Salud hospital in Pisco, Peru. The forum included the sharing of lessons learned from the 2007 earthquake in Pisco, from natural disasters in the U.S., and hands on training in basic and intermediate first aid and a search and rescue course on the collapse of light materials. The first aid course culminated in a live exercise, where participants were able to practice what they learned in the classroom. More than 230 people participated in the forum to become more prepared to save lives and respond quickly after a natural disaster.

Independencia Clinic: US/Peru partnership ceremony! 02/08/2012

The clinic construction project in Independencia is complete! The U.S. Navy Seabees and the Peruvian marines who worked on the 13-room facility were recognized in a ceremony before local community/government officials and visiting U.S. military leadership. The six Peruvian engineers who worked on the project received a Red Horse hat and certificates in appreciation of their hard work and friendship.

Construction is nearing completion on multi-use community center (playground, library, clinic, auditorium) in Tambo de Mora, Peru! U.S. and Peruvian military engineers have been working on the project since June 5 as part of New hOrizons, a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored humanitarian assistance and training exercise.
