A pedido del público, hoy le toca a Perucetus colossus, una ballena primitiva que vivió hace millones de años en lo que hoy es Perú. Este gigantesco cetáceo tenía huesos extremadamente densos y pesados, una adaptación que probablemente le ayudaba a mantenerse estable en aguas poco profundas.

A recent episode of PBS Eons presented Livyatan melvillei as a top predator and competitor of Otodus megalodon. Most of the video is alright… yet I have my issues. Mostly because they ignore our 2022 paper published in Proceedings B (and the first of my Phd at .ch) Furthermore, the pattern we presented in that paper is not an isolated case, as interactions between sharks and s***m whales are known in the fossil record not only from Peru, but also from localities in the USA and Europe… and this includes cases involving Livyatan, large sharks, and other macroraptorial s***m whales.
