Who is Zofia Nasierowska and why is she being celebrated by Google?

Today’s Google Doodle (24 April) celebrates Polish photographer Zofia Nasierowska, transforming the Google logo into a film camera with a portrait of Nasierowska in its viewfinder.

As always, the date that a particular Google Doodle appears is always significant to its subject, and today is no different - today marks what would have been Nasierowska’s 85th birthday.

Nasierowska was a Polish photographer who is considered to be one of the most significant Polish photographers of her time. Nasierowska specialised in portrait photography and claimed a number of awards around the globe for her work.

Is It true that Poland is Europe’s next great military power?

Poland is constructing the strongest army in Europe, Poland's defence minister said in an interview published on Monday for the weekly Sieci.

Mariusz Blaszczak said plans included increasing the army's size to at least 300,000 soldiers, supported by a 50,000-strong territorial defence force. He added that the army will be equipped with modern combat systems and weapons, including 366 US Abrams tanks and 1,000 South-Korean K2 tanks.

This will be the strongest land force in Europe. Well-manned and equipped with modern weaponry, an active Nato force... which will also work together with the powerful US forces stationed in Poland," Blaszczak told Sieci.

Blaszczak said the Polish Army numbered 164,000, with a record 13,742 joining last year, the highest enrolment figure since Poland abolished conscription in 2008.

New Polish film production on Netflix KRYPTONIM:POLSKA / CODENAME:POLAND

Directed by Piotr Kumik from a script by Jakub Rużyło and Łukasz Sychowicz, “Codename: Poland” (“Kryptonim: Polska” in its original language) is a Polish film that opened in theaters in that country on September 2022 and came to Netflix on April 12, 2023.

“Codename Poland”, is a comedy. The creators of the script woven the plot of this picture around the classic motif of love between two young people from opposite backgrounds, already present in “Romeo and Juliet”. At the same time, they took advantage of the conflict between nationalists and leftists, creating a witty production aimed at various viewers.

The film was almost universally praised for its interesting roles (Borys Szyc, Maciej Musiałowski, Piotr Cyrwus) and high ambitions, which ultimately could not be turned into something that could be called a cult comedy years later. Now you can check it out on VOD.
