It may be cold and nippy outside today, but we’ve got some warm and toasty news for you right here! Six more of our cats have found awesome new homes!

Sylvia (6) brought her classic features and imperious stare with her to the CPW shelter when her person left Wellington and couldn’t take her as well. Although initially shy, she loves playing with toys and being brushed. The independent lady has now gone to her new home with a single woman who’s happy to let Sylvia take the lead and give her plenty of head rubs as requested. Within an hour of her leaving the shelter, we'd already had a text to say that Sylvia was busy exploring and had graced her new owner with a few headbutts and the opportunity to give her a pat.

Tabby and white lad Burton (8) was taken in from the streets by a kind Samaritan who got him vet treatment and had him desexed. Sadly he was found to be FIV+, which has contributed to an ongoing gum inflammation. Underneath his tough demeanour, Burton is a total sweetheart, adoring snuggles and comfort. So we’re thrilled that he’s found a nice warm apartment to move into. His new fosterer visited a few times, waiting patiently for Burton to get some dental treatment. He was very excited to finally take Burton home and will embrace all his quirky behaviours!

Mr Bigstretch (6) is a handsome and clever boy, who learned do tricks and skills in his previous home in the course of his care and confidence-building in recovering from a traumatic past. His family has had to reluctantly give him up to leave the country for a medical emergency. His skills include responding to signals to sit, roll over, jump and high-five, and he uses talking buttons to ask to go outside. He has been adopted by a senior couple and their son who can help Bigstretch develop his talents with tricks and talking buttons. They went home with his extensive collection of belongings – water fountain, buttons, etc – but we know he’ll have the support and activity that he really needs.

Maisie (7) came in because her last home got too busy and she started hiding. She needed a quiet single person to live with, which is who she has now found! Her new person had met most of the cats in our shelter without feeling that special spark. Then she went out onto the deck, and saw Maisie happily stick her head out from the cubby she was hiding in, to ask for some scratches. The lady immediately felt a connection, and Maisie is now in her own home.

Calico girl Ketti (6) was found as a stray and lived happily with an older man until he passed away unexpectedly, leaving her alone in the house for several days. In the shelter, she was shy at first, but became smoochy and purry once she could trust us. Her new folks waited a few weeks for her while we got a blood tests done and some skin issues cleared up. She got on well with both of them during their visits, even offering up her tummy for rubs. She will be very much adored!

We’d also like to mention a special cat called Jazzy (16), who managed to find a home through us without actually coming into the shelter. He was taken to our local vet to be put to sleep because his health had become too much for his previous owner to deal with. However, the vet felt euthanasia wasn't necessary and so Jazzy was surrendered to us instead. He’s almost completely blind due to untreated high blood pressure, but an adorably smoochy boy. While he was still under care at the clinic, one of our long-term fosterers, whose cat recently passed away, got in touch to say she was ready to give a home to another senior cat. So our Team Lead played matchmaker and arranged for them to be introduced, resulting in perfect agreement between both Jazzy and his new person. We got a text the next day to say he purred for 11 hours straight…! Enjoy the bonus pic of a happy Jazzy.

Please welcome to the CPW whānau this week… two extra special cats looking for calm, loving homes!

🐾 Hunee (2yo female) has had a few homes in her short life and is now searching for the stability she deserves. She has dealt with some medical challenges, including recurring ear infections, and can be a little anxious, but underneath it all is a lovely, affectionate girl 😻
Hunee takes time to trust new people, but once she does, she loves sleeping on the bed, chasing shadows, and playing with string toys 😽
She also enjoys exploring outdoors and will need a safe yard to call her own. Hunee would thrive with routine, familiar faces, and a home where she can be the only pet 🧡

🐾 Silver (16yo male) came into our care because the dog in his home had become a little too risky for an older gentleman with declining eyesight.
Silver is a sweet senior boy who loves people and happily accepts pats, grooming, and gentle cuddles once he knows you 😸
He is currently receiving medication for hyperthyroidism and may also have some arthritic changes, but he still enjoys company and affection. His favourite things these days are good food, warm beds, and being close to his humans.
Because of his limited vision, Silver is looking for an indoor-only retirement home where he can stay safe and comfortable. He is part of our Care for Life senior foster programme and would love a cosy spot to spend his golden years 🩶
