Upper Hutt Toastmasters

Meeting up with the Toastmasters Brisbane Alpha-Endeavour club and Brisbane Central Toastmasters club.
As a Toastmaster it can be a lot of fun to visit other Toastmasters clubs either in New Zealand or abroad as each Toastmasters club is unique in its own way.

No, you don't have to go to all the way to Brisbane to attend Toastmasters. You can also check out your much more local Toastmasters Upper Hutt. We meet every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Monday of each month (not including public holidays) 7.30 to 9.30pm at the Kingswood funeral home corner of King and Cairo streets.

Last night was a rather informative meeting with Karl Rogers doing a speech on dialysis and Ann sheehan on cataracts. Toastmasters is not just about building confidence through public speaking but also people's speeches can be very interesting. Karen pictured Left received the best Evaluator prize for Evaluating Ann. Philippa pictured center left received best Table Topics prize with the topic 'Are mobile devices good for family communication or not?' and apparently, they are. Sudhakar pictured center right received the Most Improved prize for hosting the table topics session and Ann pictured right received the Best Overall prize for her speech on cataracts.
Overal it was a good night.

We meet every Monday except the first Monday of the month at the Kingswood funeral home in Upper Hutt.

An unexpected theme emerged tonight, weaving its way through speeches, including a keynote-style presentation, centred around digital access.

The word of the day was Panache, and our speakers certainly took that assignment and ran with it. There was no shortage of flair at the lectern, and the results board was equally dramatic, with a tie for Best Table Topic and a three-way tie for Most Improved.

Clearly, excellence was feeling generous this evening.
