Jill, Esmee, Bethany, and Ruth delivered Writing Teacher Only Days last week, connecting with schools across the country from primary through to secondary.

Educators from Rongotai College (Wellington), St Heliers School (Auckland), and Waimairi School (Christchurch) dove into high-impact teaching strategies, bridging the "why" with the "what” and the "how." It was inspiring to see secondary teachers from various departments identifying immediate opportunities to integrate writing into their subject areas to deepen student learning.

“I have been teaching English for 32 years and I have never been taught how to teach writing.”

“Every teacher at our college needs this workshop. We are all responsible for literacy here, but we need to understand the basics of the English language so we can all be heading in the same direction together.”

“So many practical takeaways; things I can take into my classroom tomorrow but also as a school for us to consider how we implement this crucial next step in explicit writing instruction together. Just like we have in the last 5 years with other components of Structured Literacy and Maths.”

“Having the opportunity to sit down as a full staff - Teachers in Years 0-8, Learning Assistants and Support, and School Leadership - and focusing intently on writing has been incredible. I really appreciate that the workshop focused both on building knowledge in writing AND giving teachers practical things they could take back to the classroom and use at all levels. These are conversations I’ve been having with teachers recently but having someone else come in and speak with such enthusiasm, simultaneously building knowledge while weaving in how they brought this to life in their own classroom, has been a breath of fresh air. We’re all leaving buzzing with excitement!”

We love partnering with schools to support effective, evidence-based implementation. Want a Writing Teacher Only Day for your school or cluster? Get in touch with our team today:

Why Brendan Lee’s keynote matters now more than ever.

Have you picked up a new resource and thought, “Why isn’t this working yet?” Or felt that teaching from a script is “robotic and boring”?

Keynote speaker Brendan Lee unpacks a powerful truth for educators:

“When you pick up a new resource, you’re going back to being a novice yourself.”

Teaching is complex: content, pedagogy, resources, and knowing your students all at once. It’s no wonder it can feel overwhelming.

Brendan’s message is both reassuring and transformative:
– You don’t need to be perfect straight away
– Fluency takes time, for teachers too
– Great teaching evolves from “following the recipe” to expert, responsive practice

Whether you’re:
– Navigating new programmes or resources
– Supporting staff through change
– Striving to refine your craft

This is a keynote you cannot afford to miss.

Join us at the Learning is Learning Symposium and be part of a community that understands learning is learning, for students and teachers alike. Registrations close soon on Tuesday, 16 June: https://bit.ly/LearningIsLearningSymposium

IMPORTANT SYMPOSIUM UPDATE
Due to personal circumstances, Steve Capp is no longer able to join us at the Learning is Learning Symposium.

However, we're delighted to welcome Rhys Coulson to be our third keynote speaker.

Rhys is the Principal of Templestowe Heights Primary School, a school recognised internationally for its evidence-based approach to teaching, learning, and implementation. His keynote, Building a High-Performing School: Leadership, Implementation, and Sustained Excellence, will explore what it takes to create meaningful, lasting improvement across a school.

Carla recently sat down with Rhys to discuss leadership, implementation, cognitive load, teacher buy-in, and why "attention is the currency of learning".

It's a fantastic conversation, and a great preview of what attendees can expect at the Symposium. Watch or listen below.

Haven’t purchased your ticket yet? Ticket sales close soon on June 16.
