Te Tāwharau o Ngā Waka national secondary school kapa haka competition has begun with more than 40 of the country's top secondary school kapa haka taking part.

Yesterday, our Chair Mark Arundel attended the pōhiri which opened the event at Mercury Baypark. From today until Thursday, each group will perform, with the top nine advancing to the finals on Friday.

TECT is proud to support this event which celebrates excellence in kapa haka, strengthens te reo Māori, tikanga Māori and cultural identity among our rangitahi.

This Sunday, 28 June, Katikati Open-Air Art will host a community celebration to unveil the artwork of Kalib Wallace and local Katikati youth at Moore Park Skatepark!!

Everyone is invited to join from 10am for food, music, professional skateboard and BMX demos, coaching sessions and giveaways.

It is set to be a fun day celebrating the collaboration and efforts of the local community which has resulted in a space showcasing local identity.

Postponement date if needed is next Sunday, 5 July.
