Verdi was hosted by the Pihama catchment group in Taranaki. Nice to work with catchment groups to highlight the importance of soil carbon on the heath of water ways. Fonterra were also there to explain the liability dairy industry faces with scope 3. We followed with a solution. Awesome day

Good article on Verdi
We have plenty of data from all around Nz to show farmers are not the problem. Slight change in management and working farms can be significant carbon sinks.
Building resilience into Their systems as the co2 sequestered can be sold but physical carbon stays on farm . A 1% rise in soc is 140,000 ltrs extra holding capacity per ha.
Healthy soils sequester carbon via plants to feed many tons of microbial life within.
Microbes exchange nutrient in return.
Resulting in healthy soils, plants, animals and humans.
The farm productivity gains and future income from carbon will be outstripped by the savings to the health system for future nz's.

Where there's roots there's carbon.
This is the 11th year of testing from this dairy farm.
The last 10 years an average of 30 tons of Co2 per ha has been sequestered into the soil.
To reference radiata pine averages 27 tons per ha
The average emissions per ha of NZ dairy farms is around 12 tons co2e per ha
This farm is 3.5 tons co2e per ha so is very much climate positive.
As management changes to bring down emissions sequestration goes up.
Carbon is the key indicator of soil health.

Busy 3 weeks for the Verdi team of soil sampling gypsies down south. Working in some magical places. Great to work with so many progressive thinking farmers and viticulturists doing great work for their industry and our environment. We build a clear picture of soil health and environmental outcomes for our clients. When good practices are implemented a profitable business and the environment can definitely coexist.
