✨🌟Last night, our kindergarten community gathered in the gentle glow of lantern light to celebrate Matariki, creating a truly special evening of warmth, connection, and reflection🏮

In the Steiner tradition, the Lantern Festival is a treasured celebration of carrying our own inner light. As the days are still short and winter surrounds us, each child walks with a lantern, symbolising the light of kindness, courage, hope, and goodness that lives within every person. Together, our many small lights remind us that even in the darkest season, warmth and light can be shared with others.

Matariki beautifully complements this tradition. As the Matariki star cluster rises in our winter sky, it invites us to pause, remember those who have gone before us, celebrate the present, give thanks for the gifts of the earth, and look ahead with hope for the year to come. It is a time of renewal, gratitude, and strengthening our connections with one another and with the natural world.

Bringing these two traditions together offers our children a meaningful experience of belonging, wonder, and reverence. Through song, story, shared food, and the quiet procession of glowing lanterns, we celebrated the light that shines both above us in the stars and within each of us.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. May the warmth of last night's lanterns continue to brighten our hearts throughout the winter season.

When you step through the gate of our kindergarten, it often feels less like arriving at an early childhood centre and more like cousins gathering at their aunty's house. The children know one another deeply. They play, create, negotiate, laugh, comfort, and grow alongside each other, forming relationships that feel very much like an extended whānau.

Our kaiako become the trusted aunties of this special place. We are there to offer guidance, share stories, provide comfort when needed, and celebrate each child's unique gifts. The rhythm of our days is woven together through shared experiences, familiar routines, and genuine care.

In a world that can often feel busy and hurried, there is something precious about children growing up surrounded by a community where everyone belongs. Older children naturally look after younger ones, friendships flourish across ages, and each child knows they are seen, valued, and welcomed.

It is this sense of family, of cousins gathered together under the watchful care of their aunties, that gives our kindergarten its warmth, heart, and magic 💞
