Off on Holiday!

As aeroplanes fly overhead, we often stop what we are doing to wave and call out, "Have a great holiday!" We watch with excitement until the plane disappears from sight.

Today, one of our toddlers decided that she was going on her very own holiday! With great determination, she began dragging the large suitcase around the outdoor playground. Curious, we asked, "Where are you going?" With a big smile, she confidently replied, "Holiday!"

"Well, have a beautiful holiday!" we responded.

Off she went, happily pulling her suitcase behind her as she explored the playground. She was fully engaged in her imaginative adventure, creating her own story and journey. Before long, we discovered her lying inside the suitcase! It seemed her holiday had been such a big trip that she needed a little rest. The suitcase had transformed from travel luggage into the perfect place to relax after her exciting travels.

What a wonderful example of imaginative play! Through her holiday adventure, she demonstrated creativity, confidence, and the ability to use everyday objects in new and meaningful ways. She was developing her language skills as she shared her ideas, strengthening her physical skills as she pulled the heavy suitcase around the playground, and using her imagination to create her own unique experience.

Moments like these highlight the importance of open-ended play, where tamariki can explore, create, and express their understanding of the world around them. By drawing on familiar experiences, such as seeing aeroplanes and hearing conversations about holidays, she was able to make connections and bring her own ideas to life.

What a fantastic holiday adventure! We wonder where her next trip will take her.
