The Right Mug

Why don't you sell your work in stores?
I sell my work at The Right Mug cart at the Nelson Saturday Market and at our gallery here in Richmond during the week. If I sold my work in stores it would be at least 40% more expensive for customers to purchase.
Over the years I've sold through various stores and understand many of the pros and cons.
Stores have to make money and they are operating in really tough economic conditions.
Packaging, invoicing and losing touch with your customers are just some of the issues that arise. How your product fits into a retail stores mix doesn't always work in your favour, as it shouldn't.
One of the downsides of selling direct is that people can underestimate your work and it's demand. Selling in high end stores can build a wider reputation that can be hard to achieve selling at 'the flea market'.
Such are the dilemmas. Rest assured we've thought about them here at The Right Mug. We've had almost 20 years to chew it over...
See you at the market tomorrow!

Available for purchase by the fabulously wealthy, by the international gallery curators, by bored hoarding billionaires and tax minimizing investors...or even by general philanthropists wishing to keep Nelson clay at the forefront of our fine cities famous art culture.
