The walking track we built for Nelson City Council is now open! The construction was a good challenge on a very steep and narrow site but it turned out great with help from Sjoerd and the team at Simon Murray Builders to build the steps.
It makes a good shorter loop with Centre of New Zealand tracks and has nice views over the city and the Nelson Haven estuary.

This week drop in if you're riding in Sharlands or make some time to go and plant a couple of trees and help with the restoration of the area where Putakari, Kaka DH and Aorere trails finish.

Planting times are Monday 5th to Saturday 10th July, 10am to 3pm.

Easy Trail Services has a job opportunity available working restoring the native forest that surrounds the mountain bike tracks in the Brook Stream and Maitai River catchments.
This work is part of Project Mahitahi, the collaborative effort to restore the ecosystem of the Maitai/Mahitahi Valley. Encouraging the regeneration of native forest will also shade the tracks, providing a better rider experience and make trails more sustainable by reducing surface wear and long term maintenance.
The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in conservation and be self-motivated to work in scrub and bush controlling plant pest species like Old Man’s Beard and wilding pines.

We will be out checking trails starting Tuesday morning. Please follow the advice from NCC and ride within your limits as some trails may have changed over the lockdown. Report any maintenance issues with a trail report using the Trailforks app and we will deal to it as soon as possible.
Please stay out of closed areas, follow social distancing rules and don't push you limits and end up in hospital or it's likely the trails will be closed again.

Mountain biking back on in the Nelson/Tasman region at COVID-19 Alert Level Three All trails on Nelson City Council owned land will reopen, including the Coppermine Trails, from 12pm on 28 April.
