๐ JOB COMPLETE: Decramastic Tile Roof Removal ๐
Another one in the books! Our crew completed a full Decramastic tile roof removal last week, fully compliant with our WorkSafe licensing from start to finish. โ
Decramastic tiles were a hugely popular roofing choice across NZ for decades, but many contain asbestos in the coating layer. If your roof is due for replacement or repairs, get it checked before you touch it. ๐ซโ ๏ธ
๐ทโโ๏ธ Massive shout out to the boys on this one, bad weather was closing in fast and they still managed to get the house AND the garage roof stripped ahead of schedule. Hard graft, no shortcuts, and the job done safely and properly under pressure. That's the ANL standard.

What actually happens when asbestos is removed?
A lot of people don't realise there's a process undertaken for the removal to be done. Here's how we close out every job:
1๏ธโฃ ENCLOSURE The work area is sealed before removal begins to contain any fibres.
2๏ธโฃ REMOVAL Asbestos-containing materials are carefully removed by our licensed team.
3๏ธโฃ DECONTAMINATION The area is thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated.
4๏ธโฃ AIR MONITORING Independent air sampling is carried out to confirm the area is safe.
5๏ธโฃ CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE A clearance inspection is completed by our independent surveyor before the space is reoccupied.
No shortcuts. No "she'll be right." Just the job done properly, documented, and signed off.

๐ซ It's not just old houses.
Schools, churches, commercial buildings, warehouses, and even relatively modern buildings can contain asbestos.
Common places we find it in commercial properties:
๐ธ Sprayed coatings on structural steelwork
๐ธ Pipe and boiler insulation
๐ธ Floor tiles, backings and adhesives
๐ธ Ceiling tiles
๐ธ Fire-rated partitioning
If you manage or own a commercial or community building and you don't have an up-to-date Asbestos Management Plan (AMP), you may be putting people at risk and exposing yourself to significant legal liability.
We carry out surveys and prepare AMPs for businesses, councils, schools, and landlords across Nelson and Tasman.

๐ฌ Here's something most people don't know.
Asbestos fibres are invisible to the naked eye.
You can't see them. You can't smell them. You can't feel them when you breathe them in.
That's what makes asbestos so dangerous, and why the idea of "it looks fine" is one of the most dangerous assumptions you can make on a job site or in a home renovation.
Testing through an IANZ-accredited laboratory is the only way to know for certain whether a material contains asbestos. And that's exactly how we do it, every single time.

๐ง Ongoing infrastructure work with the team - and we're proud to be part of it!
ANL are currently working alongside ISAACs on the Bridge 2 Better (B2B) project ๐ which is a significant infrastructure upgrade programme due for completion in June 2027. Our role? The safe removal of asbestos cement (AC) pipe as part of the renewal works. โ๏ธ
Under our contract with ISAACs, we operate on a 24-hour turnaround โฑ๏ธ because infrastructure upgrades don't wait, and neither do we!
๐ข Did you know? Water New Zealand estimates there are approximately 9,000 kilometres of asbestos cement pipe still in the ground across New Zealand with much of it installed between the 1950s and 1980s and now well past its expected 50-year lifespan. That's a lot of safe removal work ahead for the industry. ๐ช
AC pipe cut or broken dry can release respirable asbestos fibres, which is exactly why licensed, competent removal is non-negotiable. โ ๏ธ๐ฆบ
ANL brings licensed removal expertise, full H&S documentation, and a no-shortcuts approach to every job, whether it's a single section or an ongoing programme of works. โ

๐ฅ Big projects are underway at Nelson Hospital, and we're proud to have been part of the team that made the start of this one happen safely.
ANL were engaged to manage the removal of an asbestos and heavy metals contaminated soil at the new TIPU site, working alongside ISAACs Construction ๐ค and under the principal contractor Southbase Construction. ๐ช
โ ๏ธ This wasn't your average job. Co-contaminated soil containing both asbestos and heavy metals meant every step of this project demanded precision, planning, and a zero-compromise approach to safety.
๐ป Following specific methodologies, specialist plant loaded directly into double-lined disposal trucks under continuous suppression... no shortcuts, no dust, no risk.
๐ฌ Independent air monitoring and clearance sampling was carried out throughout by a Licensed Asbestos Assessor, and disposal was managed to a consented facility under full regulatory compliance.
๐ Extensive H&S documentation was in place from day one; risk registers, task analyses, works methodology, competency registers, and a full WorkSafe notification. Because that's how we do things. โ
๐ Huge credit to the ISAACs and Southbase teams for their professionalism on site, it's what happens when everyone takes health and safety seriously.
At ANL, we don't just remove asbestos, we manage risk. ๐ฆบ

๐๏ธ Builders, tradies, and property managers, this one's for you.
Before ANY demolition or significant renovation on a pre-2000 building, NZ law requires an asbestos refurbishment or demolition survey to be carried out.
That's not optional. It's a legal requirement under the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016.
We make it easy. We're local, we're fast, and we'll have your survey report back to you so your project can move forward with confidence.

๐ Fact: asbestos is still the number one cause of work-related deaths in New Zealand.
Not accidents. Not machinery. Asbestos.
Mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases develop decades after exposure, which means people are dying today from asbestos contact that happened in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s.
The scary part? Exposure is still happening. Every time someone disturbs, or demolishes an unidentified ACM without the right controls in place, the risk continues.
This is why we take what we do seriously. Every job. Every time.

๐งช Class A vs Class B asbestos removal. What's the difference?
Not all asbestos removal is the same, and not all contractors are licensed to do all types of work. Here's what you need to know:
CLASS B removal covers bonded asbestos. Think cement sheets, floor tiles, roof tiles. It's non-friable and lower risk when intact.
CLASS A removal covers friable asbestos, which is the loose, powdery stuff that's far more dangerous. Textured coatings, paper backings, insulation products, pipe lagging. This requires a higher level of training, equipment, and controls.
ANL holds BOTH Class A and Class B WorkSafe licences, which means we can handle any asbestos material you throw at us, no matter how complex the job.
If a contractor only holds a Class B licence and is removing friable material? That's a problem. A big one.
