This Compost Awareness Week, we’re proud to celebrate the people and organisations doing incredible work across Hawke’s Bay.

Hohepa Hawke's Bay is a powerful example of what can grow when people, land, and purpose come together. Their biodynamic farms and gardens support people with intellectual disabilities to live and work in a meaningful way, growing food, caring for the land, and contributing to a shared sense of purpose.

“We’ve been using Bio Rich compost at Hohepa for several years. We recently moved to a no-dig system to improve soil health and increase opportunities for our people to participate. BioRich has been central to this transition. It provides excellent fertility, builds organic matter, and supports thriving soil life. As a living mulch, it also helps suppress weeds - an important advantage in organic growing. BioRich feeds our soil, which feeds our vegetables, and ultimately our people.”

Their farm shop is just down the road from BioRich and a chance to experience the produce and some of the best cheeses you’ll try.
