PNG NEEDS to strengthen its maritime search-and-rescue capabilities, including a dedicated Coast Guard presence all across our Maritime Provinces.🇵🇬🚤

It is frustrating to note that since independence, successive governments and members haven't realised that PNG is a maritime island nation with many scattered islands and that the majority of the population live on the coast and rely heavily on sea transport, especially boats for travel because of its affordability.

PNG doesn't have established transportation services and networks that are affordable like ferry services, diverse air services, road highways and rail network. PNG is not a landlocked country. It is a maritime country and is therefore natural for sea transport to be the first option for travel.

Therefore, the need for an establishment of a Coastguard institution and service is long overdue. Coastguard services are responsible for maritime safety, maritime law enforcement and search and rescue.

It responds to oil spills and prevents pollution, maintains lighthouses, maintains GPS connection signals to safeguard shipping. It is equipped with ships, helicopters, boats, drones, tug boats with advanced surveillance equipment. Coast guards tracks and deals with maritime drug smuggling, illegal fishing, illegal cross country entry by sea, sea piracy and human trafficking. It is an extension of Homeland Security, which in PNG's case, is the police department but with specific powers and responsibilities over maritime jurisdiction. It can be transferred under the Department of Defence during wartime.

Please leaders, debate this, raise issues affecting your people. Why busy on your own empire building and wealth acquisition and then shocked when tragedy hits. Planty ol funds yupla misusim lo corruption ya ol useless idiots. Open your sleepy stupid eyes and wake up. We're suffering. Where are we going? Yupla sot lo idea ah? Nogat vision na innovative ideas to move forward ah?

Inap lo hand out mentality, think outside the box and don't be confined to ad-hoc, band aid approach nambaut ya..
