Our High Country Heritage 7 Day trip down the eastern alpine foothills got underway today.
Under grey Marlborough skies we set off on our 1250km journey aiming for Hanmer Springs at the end of Day 1.
The rain came in which was enough to settle the dust and so put a different complexion on the day where dust can otherwise be quite a major and unwanted aspect.
Bit of an issue getting everyone across on the ferries so our full compliment won’t be with us until Day 2 but we have had a pretty good day overall.

Day Four on our Big Sky trip. Major route change but I consider the day we finalised on was pretty good really. Bit of the Arrow River Macetown track and then away out to the Skippers Road. Got to the Skippers Bridge which is closed which is a pity but the drive is spectacular.

A few photos of Day One of our 2026 Big Sky which is a 6 day trip from Fairlie in South Canterbury down into Central Otago where we do a big loop around the region near Cromwell, Cardrona and different directions out of Alexandra.
We had to alter the route today because of wet weather initially and water levels but I think still managed to have a good day. We got up into the clouds at times and the weather continued to improve as the day went on.
