Enjoy viewing HNI's entries for the 💫Tirama-Kahawai / The Illuminated Parade as part of our community's ✨Matariki Celebrations✨ on Thursday night, 9th July, 5-8 p.m. in the Civic Square, Hastings.
The students worked on both individual and group projects with the requirement that they use sustainable and biodegradable materials where possible. The students were keen to learn about Matariki and the stars in the cluster:
🌟 Matariki: The mother of the stars, associated with health and wellbeing.
🌟 Pōhutukawa: Connected to those who have passed away.
🌟 Tupuānuku: Tied to the harvest and food gathered from the ground.
🌟 Tupuārangi: Connected to birds and food from the forest canopy.
🌟 Waitī: Associated with fresh water and its life forms.
🌟 Waitā: Tied to the ocean and saltwater food sources.
🌟 Waipunarangi: Associated with rain.
🌟 Ururangi: Connected to the winds.
🌟 Hiwa-i-te-rangi: The wishing star, tied to aspirations and goals for the coming year.
