It was a delight to inspire 29 Enviroschool student leaders and their teachers at Ōtokia Creek and Marsh this morning, in partnership with City Sanctuary and several other groups.
Coordinators Claudia (BTP) and Lizzy (CS) focussed on predator monitoring as the first step of strategic pest control, to determine what animals are in what habitats. Students learnt to make their own chew cards and use them, and what traps to set for which predators. Being student leaders these young people will now take this knowledge back to their schools to inspire their classmates and teachers to take action for the environment.
As a side note, it was a delight to spend quality time in the beautiful regenerating forest that our community has created at Ōtokia Creek. It's worth taking a walk down Macintosh Road for a look over the fence 😊 We live in the BEST community πŸ’šπŸŒΏ

Such a terrific morning for an advanced trapping workshop run by the amazing team at City Sanctuary. Claudia and Kim learned a lot of new tips to make trapping in our local community even more effective. Can't wait to share with our trappers!

Become part of our trapping community!

We're looking for a trustworthy volunteer to trap stoats, rats and possums fortnightly on private land on McIntosh Road. All training provided. Time commitment would be about 2 hours every two weeks. The traps are located along an established track. Would suit someone who likes walking, jogging or mountain biking.

Please email Claudia at [email protected]
