Recently I found myself marvelling at how fast the year was going - six months have gone and six months to go. This halfway point is the perfect time to assess, review and set priorities for the second half of the year. Now is the time to set development goals which can be activated and imbedded before end-of-year craziness sets in.
This year in particular, I have noticed a repeated theme emerging with training I’ve been facilitating. That is the importance of communication and dealing with issues in a timely manner. Poor inter-team communication and not following up can escalate into costly mistakes for the business. It also leads to much frustration for staff and customers. The focus on communication practices is a whole-business commitment.
We can customise inhouse training for your business which focuses on communication and dealing with difficult issues. We also have training courses which have this component in the content. Mid-year is a great time to empower staff with new skills they can start applying immediately.

We live in high pressure, fast changing, disruptive times. People are impacted by all kinds of pressure both in their workplace and their personal lives. There are many factors which come into play in how they respond to those situations – type of work, self-awareness, personal circumstances, personality temperament, age, habits, health and fitness etc.
There is no formula guaranteeing a stress-free life, but there are things we can do regularly to minimise the negative impact of high pressure/stress. These will enable us to build stress resilience and strengthen our ability to bounce back more quickly.

Business Writing – Why you need to get to the point quickly!
We live in an age of mass information and communication overload, where we are relentlessly bombarded with messages. To cope we have increased the need to filter information.
- We now read differently – we scan and skim.
- We scan to identify relevance, to us.
- We scan to identify interest, to us.
-We only read if it is deemed necessary and even then, we skim.
If you want to capture your reader’s attention, you need to state your most important message early. A recent study showed that fewer than 10 percent of managers will read the whole email.
