Lots of algae bloom today - this is a natural occurrence: algal blooms are a natural part of the marine ecosystem, forming the base of food webs.
Noctiluca scintillans, a common orange bloom here in the Hauraki Gulf is generally considered non-toxic to humans, but its cells release ammonia, which can harm fish and aquaculture. The 'sea sparkle' is more impressive with the naked eye. 🤩
