Curriculum Release message from MOE:

Tēnā koutou katoa,

Today we have released the final curriculum content for Years 0-10 English and Te Reo Rangatira and Years 0-10 Mathematics and Statistics, and Pāngarau. These learning areas and wāhanga ako include details for the assessment and aromatawai requirements announced by the Minister last week.

You can read more about this progress and access content, the full timeline and information about implementation supports via Tāhūrangi: tahurangi.education.govt.nz/final_y0to10_english_maths

Information sheets and explainer videos that capture key details about the National Curriculum content will be published on Tāhūrangi shortly.

This content must be used from the start of Term 1, 2026 for all state and state-integrated schools. The Minister has agreed to bespoke arrangements in relation to these requirements for Kaupapa Māori education. The Ministry has followed up directly with these kura about these arrangements.

Remaining learning areas and wāhanga ako for Years 0-10

The remainder of the draft Years 0-10 curriculum content across all learning areas and wāhanga ako will be released from Tuesday 28 October for consultation and to inform planning and professional development days ahead of the new school year. This content will need to be used from the start of Term 1, 2027.

In 2026

In Term 1, 2026, there will be in-class testing of Years 0-10 learning areas and wāhanga ako and wider feedback invited on all Years 0-13 content. We’ll have more information for you about this soon.

The Years 11-13 curricula will be available in Term 1, 2026 to invite wider feedback and help build familiarisation and readiness. There will be no formal requirement to use this content until 2028 (for Year 11 content), 2029 (for Year 12 content), and 2030 (for Year 13 content).
