📆 Today is a public holiday in New Zealand, celebrating the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840 📜

🇬🇧 Over 650 years ago, Auckland was a Māori settlement. The Europeans purchased the land from the Māori people through the Treaty of Waitangi signed on 6 February 1840.
Auckland was named by New Zealand’s first Governor, William Hobson, out of gratitude to his esteemed friend George Eden the Lord of Auckland, famous politician of his time, who became Governor-General of India and helped for Hobson’s naval career.

🇫🇷 Pendant plus de 650 ans, Auckland fut une colonie Maorie. Les Européens ont ensuite acheté la terre au peuple Maori avec le traité de Waitangi signé le 6 février 1840.
Auckland fut nommée par le premier gouverneur de la Nouvelle-Zélande, William Hobson, par reconnaissance à son bon ami George Eden, le Compte d'Auckland, célèbre politicien en temps, qui devint Gouverneur Général de l'Inde, et contribua à la carrière navale de Hobson.
