We are nearing the end of the lockdown tunnel!
Today we take you to Parnell - one of Auckland's oldest suburbs known for its rich architectural heritage. This alterations project in the character suburb successfully achieved a balance of creative modernist architecture while paying homage to its built heritage character.
By Native Architecture, this striking twin gable carport replaces an undersized and incongruous garage, enabling views to the villa that sits behind. The bold gables reflect the geometry of the villa, while the build was carefully considered down to the smallest detail, from the selection of individual bricks to the precise pitch and density of the gables. What transpired is an inviting entry and functional carport that can accommodate two modern-sized cars, while being a charismatic addition with a strong connection to the local buildings' vernacular.
Although the project is small in scale, it is always a challenge to obtain resource consent for a modern addition in the Unitary Plan's Residential Special Character Area Overlay. Having assisted with strategic planning advice to resource consent approval, seeing it come to life from conceptual drawings has been an immensely rewarding journey!

We hope everyone is keeping well in your bubble and we extend our thanks to those working in the essential services. We’re officially halfway through the planned 4-week lockdown!
Now that we are working remotely from home, we thought we will look back on some of our past projects. We kick things off with one of our favourites, a lifestyle estate designed by Sayes Jackson Architects.
Located on the foothills of Coatesville, this bespoke residence has been formed from a series of barn-like gable forms which are composed to reference country living, while the material palette and colour selections are intended to appear as both natural and recessive in nature. The end result is an architectural gem that is both striking and sympathetic to its sweeping landscape, ready for the family to enjoy and share.
We are pleased to be involved from preliminary planning advice to obtaining resource consent, navigating the various quirks and features of the Auckland Unitary Plan. It truly was a delight seeing it materialise from inception to completion.
