However, when circumstances change, families can face unexpected immigration challenges. A child born or living in New Zealand may not automatically qualify for a visa just because one parent is able to support a partner’s visa.

This week’s approval was a great result for one of our families, and an important reminder:

Just because your visa allows you to support your partner, it does not always mean you can support a child. The rules can be different for partners and dependent children.

If your family circumstances have changed, especially if you have had a baby while in New Zealand, it is important to get advice early so your child can remain lawful in New Zealand.

A big congratulations to our client on the approval of their Partnership Work Visa.

This application was a little challenging due to limited relationship evidence. Not every couple collects documents with a future visa application in mind, and sometimes simple things, like updating addresses, can be missed.
