Auckland Marist Rugby Club

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Auckland Marist Life Member, Jim Benson.

Jim was the heart of our club, a manager, coach, committee member, President, Life Member, benefactor, and trustee of the Marist Rugby Charitable Trust. Few have given as much, for as long, or with as much humility.

A successful IT businessman with strong ties to his hometown of Napier, Jim carried a quiet, thoughtful presence. His sharp mind was legendary, especially across a chessboard, where he was nationally ranked and Patron of NZ Chess. He also enjoyed good red wine and good company.
Jim faced his health battle with courage & tenacity. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our love and condolences go to Raewyn Jim’s family and his wider Napier whānau.
Rest in peace, Jim.
