Lara Chuo is a q***r Filipino contemporary dancer based in Tamaki Makaurau, known for her expressive precision, emotional range, and bold physicality. A graduate of Unitec’s Performing and Screen Arts program, she brings both technical strength and powerful storytelling to every performance. Lara’s work spans stage and screen, including PROWL, I Just Want to Make You Proud, and This Room is an Island.

Influenced by Waacking and ballroom culture, she is a proud member of the Avant House of Dawn. Her movement explores identity, q***rness, and decolonial joy with clarity, care, and unapologetic presence.

♠️ INTRODUCING ELLA ♠️

Ella Rerekura (Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi, Ngāti Rangi, Ngāti Tuwharetoa) is a multidisciplinary artist from Ōtautahi living in Tāmaki Makaurau. Ella’s artistic kete includes dance, choreography, writing and visual art, that she uses to explore the nuances within her identity as wahine, Māori, and CODA (child of Deaf Adults). Ella’s work is deeply tied to her whakapapa journey, reflecting her desire to learn and understand more about her tūpuna and how they reside in her body today. Ella was a recipient of Basement Theatre’s 2023 Matariki Wānanga and the 2024 MAP Speculative Futures residency, where she developed Who Calls Me On When No One Is Home and Body of Remembering. Her work was showcased at the MAP Resides exhibition at CoCA Toi Moriki, and at the Physics Room’s Offsite exhibition. Ella’s groundbreaking multimedia dance piece E ngaro ana koe? explores themes of whakapapa, identity, and belonging. She is reshaping contemporary Māori art with fearless creativity and a strong artistic voice.
