Jan Beaumont Poetry
15/07/2026
I was browsing one of my pages (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy HCM) when I came across this poem I'd written in 2021. I don’t even remember it. I suppose that's to be expected after 600+!!!!
Counting My Blessings
By Jan Beaumont ©️
I am so flaming sick of disasters
Like Covid and flooding and fire
I thought that the world would be nicer
When I finally got to retire!
But somehow it just didn't happen
The way that I thought it would go
I just can't keep up with world hunger and greed
They are things that I don't want to know.
There are scams, power cuts and mask wearing
This is not how I saw my last years
I thought I'd be happy and peaceful
But the worry just drives me to tears.
I look out my window each morning
There are blue skies and no sign of rain
But as I go out to enjoy the nice day
Down it comes. It near drives me insane.
Then I stop and remember how lucky
I am to be still above ground
I have family who think that I'm special
I have wonderful friends all around.
My grandkids still run up and hug me
They still love to sleep in my bed
I can still pay my bills and there's even
Some left over to fritter instead!
I love spending time at the movies
Then sharing a meal with my friends
I feel very grateful I've got them
It’s a blessing that just never ends.
So, looking back over my worries
I realise they just don't compare
To the happiness that still surrounds me
And the loved ones who always are there!
