🐑 Wool – one of nature’s most versatile materials.

We’ve teamed up with Hayden and the team at W.S. Hickey to give waste wool a second life in our landscaping projects. Instead of heading to landfill, this low-value wool is being used as a natural compost and weed-suppressing mulch in our garden beds.

Why wool?

🌱 Suppresses weeds naturally
💧 Holds moisture in the soil, reducing the need for watering
🌡️ Helps regulate soil temperature, protecting plant roots through changing seasons
🌿 Breaks down over time, releasing valuable nutrients like nitrogen back into the soil
♻️ 100% natural and biodegradable
🐌 Can even help deter slugs and pests thanks to its coarse fibres.

It's a great example of turning a waste product into something practical, sustainable, and beneficial for the landscapes we create!

Guess who’s back… back again 🎶

Steve’s back in the country after spending some time in Australia, and is now part of the OP team 🙌 With 20+ years in construction, he’s worked across everything from multi-house developments to bespoke homes. He’s also spent time as a building inspector, giving him great insight into compliance and quality. So it's safe to say, he knows what he's talking about. (When it comes to construction 😉)

It's great to have you on board, Steve — we’re stoked to have you with us 👷‍♂️

Big win for the team 👏

We recently received an outstanding blower door test result, confirming the exceptional airtightness of this newly completed Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust home In Hawea. With an air change rate of just 2.01 ACH, the build is performing well above typical new homes — exceeding expectations set at design stage. A great result, and a solid example of how smart design and quality construction pay off.

A huge credit to Authur Lee (QLCHT Sustainability and Design Manager) and Hamish O’Carroll and his team at Buildcraft whose collaboration, detailing, and workmanship made this level of performance possible.

A nice wee write-up featuring our very own PA, Daisy 🐶

Saul from Otago Projects has been quietly working miracles as our Construction Manager, turning architectural dreams into actual roofs over actual heads, and doing it with the kind of precision that makes heads nod quietly in approval.

While our big developments grab the headlines, Saul's been tackling the smaller projects that matter just as much – and knocking them out at a serious pace.

His PA Daisy (also pictured) supervises from her cushion, maintains quality control via a stern gaze, occasionally barking at subcontractors who dare suggest shortcuts.

Together they're proof that construction management requires equal parts technical expertise, project wizardry, and the ability to negotiate with both council planners and puppies who believe they run the site.

Behind every home we deliver, stands someone like Saul (and Daisy), transforming spreadsheets into foundations, permits into walls, and promises into keys that unlock futures for Queenstown and Wānaka families. 🐶🏡
