ChildSafeNet

ChildSafeNet has been working closely with municipalities to make digital spaces safer for children and young people.

As part of this effort, ChildSafeNet conducted two digital safety training sessions in Budhanilkantha Municipality on 18 and 19 June 2026 for students from Grades 6 to 10.

The training sessions were organised by Budhanilkantha Municipality in collaboration with ChildSafeNet.

A total of 115 students from seven public schools in Budhanilkantha Municipality participated in the training.

The interactive sessions focused on:

• Balancing the opportunities of the internet and AI with privacy and safety

• Recognising online risks such as gaming addiction, online fraud, cyberbullying, sexting and sexual extortion

• Building children’s confidence to use reporting mechanisms and seek help when they face digital threats

• Developing healthy digital habits and being sensitive to others online

Through quizzes, debates, discussions and video screenings, the students actively participated in the sessions.

They also shared their experiences of using the internet, raised concerns and reflected on how they can make their digital spaces safer and more productive.

Children have the right to use the internet safely and to be protected from online harm. Governments, technology companies, schools, parents and civil society organisations have a responsibility to keep children safe offline as well as online.

This requires safer platforms, informed parents, prepared schools, accountable systems and proactive local governments.

Local government initiatives like this are exactly what Nepal needs to build a stronger protective ring around children online. True systemic change starts at the local level.
