Himalayan Nature
31/05/2026
As the summer season increases the likelihood of snake encounters and snakebites, Himalayan Nature, in coordination with ZSL Nepal, conducted two community awareness programs on snake awareness in Binayi Triveni-01, Nawalparasi, to promote the safety of both people and snakes. A total of 131 participants attended the programs and actively participated in discussions and learning sessions.
The awareness programs focused on helping participants identify venomous snakes found in the Terai region of Nepal and distinguish them from similar-looking non-venomous species. Participants also learned about snakebite management, appropriate first-aid measures, dos and don'ts following a snakebite, common myths and misconceptions surrounding snakes and snakebites, and practical measures to reduce the risk of snakebite incidents at the community level. In addition, the sessions highlighted the ecological importance of snakes and the need to conserve these often-misunderstood animals.
Through these awareness programs, we aim to improve knowledge, reduce fear and misinformation, and encourage informed actions that support both human safety and snake conservation.
