हामी हालै गोरखा जिल्लाको दुर्गम त्सुम उपत्यकामा, चीन सीमाना नजिक पर्ने लामा गाउँ र छेकम्पार क्षेत्रमा आयोजित एक अश्व स्वास्थ्य शिविरमा सहभागी भएका थियौं।

यस शिविरको मुख्य उद्देश्य काम गर्ने घोडाहरूको बन्ध्याकरण तथा जुका औषधि वितरण गर्नु थियो। शिविरमार्फत २१ वटा घोडाको बन्ध्याकरण गरिएको थियो भने १२ वटा घोडालाई जुका विरुद्धको औषधि दिइएको थियो।

महत्त्वपूर्ण कुरा के छ भने, त्सुम नुब्री गाउँपालिकाले अश्व बन्ध्याकरण कार्यक्रमका लागि बजेट विनियोजन गरेको यो पहिलो पटक हो। यसले उक्त क्षेत्रमा काम गर्ने जनावरहरूको कल्याणप्रति स्थानीय सरकारको बढ्दो प्रतिबद्धता देखाउँछ।

सबै बन्ध्याकरण शल्यक्रियाहरू जनरल एनेस्थेसिया (पूर्ण बेहोस बनाएर) प्रयोग गरी गरिएको थियो, जुन परम्परागत रूपमा एनेस्थेसिया बिना गरिने विधिभन्दा बढी सुरक्षित र मानवीय मानिन्छ। घोडा धनीहरूले यस विधिप्रति निकै सन्तुष्टि व्यक्त गरेका छन् र शिविरमार्फत प्रदान गरिएको उच्च पशु कल्याण मापदण्डको प्रशंसा गरेका छन्।

यस पहललाई सफल बनाउन सहयोग पुर्‍याउनुहुने त्सुम नुब्री गाउँपालिका तथा स्थानीय समुदायप्रति एनिमल नेपाल हार्दिक आभार व्यक्त गर्दछ। उहाँहरूको सहकार्यले यस दुर्गम हिमाली क्षेत्रमा काम गर्ने घोडाहरूको जीवनस्तर सुधार्न महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान पुर्‍याएको छ।

We were recently part of an equine health camp in the remote Tsum Valley of Gorkha District, near the China border, covering areas such as Lama Gaun and Chhekampar.

This camp was primarily focused on surgical castration and deworming of working horses. A total of 21 horses were castrated and 12 were dewormed during the camp.

Importantly, this marks the first time that the Tsum Nubri Rural Municipality has allocated a dedicated budget for equine castration, demonstrating a growing commitment to improving the welfare of working animals in the region.

All castrations were performed under general anaesthesia, a safer and more humane approach compared to traditional castration methods where anesthesia is not used. Equine owners expressed high levels of satisfaction with the procedure and appreciated the improved welfare standards provided through the camp.

Animal Nepal is grateful for the support of the local government and community members, whose collaboration made this initiative possible and helped improve the lives of working equines in this remote Himalayan region.
