On February 27, 2026, as part of our CPD program, Mr. Padma Sundar Joshi delivered an insightful session that explored the traditional water management system of the Newar Civilization. Drawing from his profound expertise, he shared insights into the philosophy, principles, technicalities, and management practices of these historical networks, highlighting how indigenous wisdom shaped sustainable urban living. An established voice in the field, his extensive writings on urban development and urban water management provided a comprehensive backdrop to the discussion. Complementing his broader research is his acclaimed Nepali book, Hiti System: Past Present and Future , a Madan Puraskar-listed work that offers a deep dive into the Kathmandu Valley's traditional water infrastructure. Through his scholarly reflections, the session underscored the vital importance of understanding and preserving traditional ecological knowledge to inform resilient urban futures.
