Thorung La sits at an elevation of approximately 5,416 meters (17,769 feet) above sea level, making it a challenging and high-altitude crossing for those traveling on the Annapurna Circuit, a famous trekking trail in Nepal. The pass offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks and is a significant point on the trekking route. Trekkers usually make their way through Thorung La as they complete the circuit, often starting from either Besisahar or Nayapul and passing through a variety of landscapes and villages along the way.
