Big changes are coming to Canada’s LMIA process from April 1, 2026 .Employers will now be required to run job advertisements for a minimum of 8 weeks, significantly increasing the recruitment period before hiring foreign workers.

The government is also pushing for stronger domestic hiring by requiring employers to actively target youth and underrepresented groups, making the process more competitive for foreign applicants.

In addition, small businesses may face stricter hiring caps, while rural employers could benefit from relaxed limits to address labor shortages in less populated areas.

These updates signal a clear shift toward prioritizing local talent and tightening compliance—meaning both employers and applicants need to prepare for a more structured and demanding LMIA process.

📩 Over 1,000 people are one step closer to permanent residence (PR) in Ontario.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued 1,112 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) across five regional draws on March 25, 2026, targeting candidates under the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker (FW), International Student (IS), and In-Demand Skills (IDS) streams.

To be eligible, candidates had to be living in Canada with a valid work or study permit.

Here’s how invitations broke down by region:

📍 Greater Toronto Area (GTA) — 431 ITAs
📍 Southwestern Ontario — 251 ITAs
📍 Central Ontario (excluding the GTA) — 199 ITAs
📍 Eastern Ontario — 174 ITAs
📍 Northern Ontario — 57 ITAs

Targeted occupations spanned health care, technology, business administration, and trades — with minimum scores and eligible NOCs varying by region.

These draws also come ahead of major changes to Ontario’s immigration streams later this year.
