Think back through your life (parents, teachers, friends) - who do you think the most CRITICAL person in your life has been?
Yes I'm sorry to say the most critical person in your life is YOU!
The person who tells you off the most, puts you down the most and places the most limits on your hopes, desires and ambitions is you.
Noticing the way you talk to yourself is a key step in making changes in your life. If you're not speaking to yourself in a constructive and supportive way then you're bound to be creating and maintaining problems for yourself.
So start from now paying attention to your inner voice and talk to yourself like you would your best friend, with encouragement and compassion. Recognising this inner voice allows you the option of change.

âTreat the cause, not the symptomâ!
Many people are taught coping strategies to help manage and minimise their unhelpful symptoms.
For example, Gemma has weekly panic attacks to which she is taught coping mechanisms to help her manage them or minimise the amount she has.
Although useful, these strategies donât help the person understand why they are creating these unhelpful symptoms and how to overcome them.
If the focus is on âcopingâ this only serves to reinforce that their symptoms are out of their control and that they are powerless to do anything about them - only manage them!
I assume people suffering from crippling symptoms like anxiety, stress, depression, emetophobia, panic attacks, social anxiety, low self esteem. OCD, overthinking, would prefer to overcome these symptoms rather than becoming really good at minimising them. You donât want to become a very effective fire extinguisher for the rest of your life!
Learning the tools and insights into developing high self esteem, resilience and a powerful mindset will enable a person to take control of their thinking and overcome these unhelpful symptoms, learning to thrive.
