🍫 Today is World Chocolate Day! Did you know that one of only two commissions Edvard Munch ever accepted was for a chocolate factory?
🏭 In 1922, Freia director Johan Throne Holst introduced art into the factory to enrich everyday life for the employees. A year later, Munch’s 12 paintings were installed in the women’s canteen, forming what became known as the Freia frieze.
For more than 90 years, the works have remained part of daily life at Freia. Now, for the first time ever, the frieze is on display in a Norwegian museum – unframed and revealing details rarely seen before.
📍 Edvard Munch and the Chocolate Factory is on view until 11 October 2026.
