MUNCH

A significant loss for the art world – Georg Baselitz (1938–2026) has passed away.

📍 Last year at MUNCH, Feet First brought together 80+ paintings, drawings and sculptures – the most extensive presentation of his work ever shown in Norway, and among his final exhibitions.

Born in 1938, Baselitz grew up in a Europe shattered by war – a sense of ‘destroyed order’ that shaped his practice. His motifs moved between fractured figures, charged symbols and, later, his own ageing.

🧑‍🎨 Since the late 1960s, he turned his subjects upside down, breaking with tradition to foreground painting itself.

For those who experienced it at MUNCH – you felt the weight. Thank you to White Cube for helping make this monumental exhibition possible.
